ShaKayla Smith

ShaKayla Smith, a Bachelor-level prepared Registered Nurse, has been interested in healthcare since elementary school. As a child raised in Statesville, NC, she always dreamed of becoming either a nurse or a doctor. Her dedication to this career pathway throughout school allowed her to graduate high school with an academic scholarship and certified nursing assistant course completion.

 

She eagerly embarked on her healthcare journey. She was employed at both a home health agency and a nursing home as a CNA during college. She also worked temporarily as a math tutor, which may have sparked her later discovered love of education. In 2009, ShaKayla graduated from North Carolina Central University, Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing. While at NCCU, she was a Chancellor’s Scholar; participated in the Pursing Advancement in Tomorrow’s Healthcare (PATH) program at the institution; was inducted into both the Sigma Theta Tau, National Nursing Honor Society and the Phi Eta Sigma, National Honor Society; served as the Student Representative on the Appeals Committee for the Nursing Department; and was a recipient of both the Department of Nursing Faculty Recognition Award and the Charlie Woodrow Award for Initiative and Scholastic Achievement.

 

Since then, ShaKayla has worked in several fields of nursing including a Telemetry/Oncology/Medical-Surgical (TOM) unit in a small hospital in Mooresville, NC; a family practice; an Intermediate Care and Urology unit in Greensboro, NC; a Level 5 Adolescent Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility; a Nurse Call Center for a leading insurance provider; and a hemodialysis clinic.

 

During her time with the Nurse Call Center, ShaKayla was blessed to help train and mentor new employees. After approximately 3 years, she was promoted to a Clinical Manager position. Leading a staff of about 20 nurses in various states, this position allowed ShaKayla to realize how much she enjoyed teaching and helping others reach their full potential. Although, no longer in this role, it is still a concept near and dear to her and that she will always carry in her future roles.

 

ShaKayla is now growing her own knowledge and ways to help others as Co-Owner of Vitality Educational Services LLC. ShaKayla is very passionate about healthcare and the importance of education. She considers herself a lifetime learner and feels privileged to have the opportunity to share her knowledge with others!

 

Although nursing is very important to her, ShaKayla is also very family-oriented. She loves spending time with her children, two boys and her fiancé, and tries to do so as much as possible Her other hobbies include crafting, reading, traveling, listening to music, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. ShaKayla currently lives in Advance, NC and looks forward to working with you soon!
